Standard Practices
Explained below are general accepted standard practices in the steel grating industry based on the NAAMM Metal Bar Grating Manual.
QuotationsQuotations are preferred to be based on unit price per square meter (in gross rectangular sections) and for stair tread it shall be based on unit price per unit. Full description on grating specs provides complete necessary attachment (kicks plate, cutout locations, finishing, and also fastening device).
ExtrasItems that are not included in the unit price quotations, and which shall be considered as extras, are as follows: cutting, banding, toe plates, support plates or angles, hinges, locking device, forming, undercutting or notching, special drilling, punching or tapping, fastening, bolts for stair treads, degreasing of sandblast, special bundling or strapping other than steel strapping, site measurement, installation and any others materials not specified in the Standard Specifications for Metal bar Gratings and Treads (including special welding if galvanized in accord with ASTM 123)
Drawings And SpecificationsThe customer has to provide a set of construction drawings and specifications of latest revision showing the layout of supports and openings correctly dimensioned, together with the sizes and types of grating and treads requested. Should cutouts for vertical bracing or moment connections be desired for shop fabrication, the structural steel detail drawings shall be provided prior to the preparation of the grating shop drawings.
The customer’s construction plans and specifications shall be assumed by Khansforge to be correct in all details if any written notice to the contrary is not furnished. Upon request, Khansforge shall submit to the customer three (3) hard copies or one (1) soft copy of detailed drawings in outline form for the latter’s view. The customer shall return one copy with an approval stamp or desired changes. Should changes be required, which involved work not called for in the original plans and specifications, Khansforge shall have the right to charge extra for the engineering work required to make such changes. After all necessary corrections and/or changes are made; the drawings shall be resubmitted to the customer for his final approval. Khansforge shall not proceed with any fabrication work until drawings are finally approved. Installation DrawingsIf requested, Khansforge shall furnish to the Customer a maximum of three (3) sets of prints or one (1) softcopy of all installation drawings.

Quantity MeasurementsQuantity measurements for gratings ordered to specific dimensions without drawings shall be based on span times width of each panel, with no deduction made for cutouts. Final calculated grating quantities supplied from drawings shall be on the basis of gross area measured center-to-center of supports, or back to back of supporting angles or channels, or overall dimensions of grating, whichever is larger, with no deduction for clearances. Measurement of cuts shall be on the basis of a minimum of 0.3meter per cut panel. Any cut in excess of one 0.3meter per cut panel shall be measured to the next higher lineal meter. Measurement of banding, toe plates and nosings shall be on the same basis as mentioned.
Changes In ScopeIf at any time during the course of the work, the customer orders any form of changes from the original contract made which not called for in the original bidding plans, the cost of making such changes shall be borne by the customer at a price to be agreed upon.
Field WorkKhansforge shall not be responsible for taking actual measurements of construction work on site, nor for erection or installation of the grating.
BackchargesUpon discovery of unsatisfactory material, the customer shall immediately notify Khansforge, who will initiate an investigation into the complaint. Khansforge shall be given the opportunity to inspect the material prior to any corrective work being done.
Khansforge is responsible for providing grating in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. Khansforge is not responsible for site changes, drawing changes not received and approved by Khansforge prior to grating fabrication, improper fabrication and/or erection of supporting members. If the investigation and inspection confirm errors in grating fabrication, Khansforge agrees to repair and/or replace defective material at no additional charge to the customer. |
